For a while, I have been meaning to say hello with a meaningful post and after noticing the new wave of fellow planners arriving at high speed, with so many questions, curiosity to learn the tricks, the names, the deets, the shops, the DIY's, the scope on everything planner related, I realized that the opportunity to reach out came to me in the manner of writing a post about the super famed TN.
What is a TN? A TN stands for Traveler's Notebook. Also known as a Midori, per the Japanese brand where the traveler's notebook originated from. A TN is a cover (usually made of leather) with elastic bands, which holds notebooks inside. Additionally, it comes with another elastic band to hold the notebook closed. Due to its compact and smaller size, the TN has been a companion of traveler's, journalists, engineers, architects, students and for the last 3-4 years, it has found a niche in the planning world.
Planners from around the world have massively shown their love for this new planning "system" and it is certainly here to stay! I have personally witnessed how the trend took off with small companies coming to light with new and different options of leather TNs and now larger craft suppliers, such as Michael's, JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby, have joined the party, to make it in a very competitive market and adding to the oh so many options on designs, colors, materials, colors and sizes, so that if you are in the market for one of these, I wish you luck! You are going to have a tough time deciding on what to get and if you are like me, you will end up buying more than one because...you know...they are sooooo pretty!!
That takes me to discuss the next important factor about TN: Besides being so trendy, they come in different sizes and not what you would think. I recently attended a Planner Meetup and was introduced to a "Micro". A Micro has the size of a wallet and it is a favorite amongst fellow planners peeps. Due to the high demands, TNs' makers have been creating different sizes of the notebook to cater to the different designs of inserts, dahsboards and books that are available to fill-up the TN. Here is the list that I have been using as the guide to create the dashboards/folders that I offer up for sale here:
Micro - Fits Inserts 3" x 4"
Passport - Fits Inserts 3.4" x 4.9"
Pocket - Fits Inserts 3.5” x 5.5”
A6 - Fits Inserts 4"x6"
Personal - Fits Inserts 3.75" x 6.5
B6 - Fits Inserts 5" x 7"
Standard - Fits Inserts 4.5” x 8.25”
Wide - Fits Inserts 5” x 8.25”
The most popular sizes are the Personal, the Standard and the B6, which are in the middle of the chart. The Micro could be used as a wallet and the Passport and Pocket are next but still in smaller sizes, which makes them great because they fit in purses. When trying to decide, you will also have to figure out if you want a wider or regular width on the spine and that all depends on how "chunky" you want it and how many inserts you are hoping to fit in it. If you are still undecided or still shopping around to buy your new TN, I really wish you luck in finding the best option that works for you.
In the meantime, I did the homework for you and googled the terms Traveler's Notebook, if you follow this link, you can see that the possibilities are endless and although I already own two TNs, I am drooling over the amazing designs and colors choices offered by the Scriver's Creek Company. Ms. Crissie Potter Fields, one of the owners, has been so busy with her shop because her designs and colors are wonderful and the company's amazing customer service has made them a favorite. Even with a production time of over 30 days, I am hoping that by the time that you read this piece, I will be in the list for my new TN.
And here goes something totally unrelated: I added a couple of freebies to this post. You can find these two workout/exercise trackers that I made for my own use. I am sharing them here and here because I know a lot of us planner girls are into fitness/health and I know exactly what it is to struggle so I am hoping that this two planner inserts made for Personal size ringed planners will help! Please tag me if you use them?
Next in the shop: TN calendars pages, weekly inserts, notes, lists, financial planning and workout trackers so I am not left behind because as much as love my ringed planners, there is new TN, in a pretty neat color and design, that is calling my name, so I am going to need to get with the program and create my own pages to fill it up.
Now, I am going to leave you with some pretty sights of what I am currently working on and offering in the shop, with the hope that you leave me a comment to share your experience with TNs or just to say Hi!!
